ABOUT CUSTOM TROFIMOV BASSOON BOCALS
The reason why I started producing Bocal is to provide a solution to high-pitched sounds. The fact that my father is also a bassoonist and his support has always helped me. I had the opportunity to work with many bassoon brands. No matter what the bassoon was, I always needed a best bocal. We have purchased many wonderful bocals from the Heckel factory over time. We tried bocal with different models and features. Although the sound quality was excellent, unfortunately the high register was not always as comfortable as I wanted. This includes the BD model. Of course, these experiences are based on many years. As the pieces I played became more difficult, I needed the high sounds to be comfortable. I believed that the bassoon is not only an accompaniment and bass instrument, but also a soloist instrument. Contemporary composers use all vocal ranges on the bassoon, and this is a nightmare for bassoonists. Intonation, comfort of high sounds, sound quality and stacato comfort are greatly affected by bocal. Unfortunately, some professors recommend studying long notes as the solution to everything. Since I am a professor, I give my students the best reeds and the best bocals. After that, if there is a problem, I tell them to work extra. But this is usually not necessary. Playing only long notes is not a solution, and I think it is not right to play with hard reed from beginning to end for two high sounds in a piece.
I always preferred the best brand. I wasn't even trying other brands. But as I grew older, I had to give one-hour solo recitals. I realized that it is not the brand of the bocal that is important, but also its sound and comfort.
I had the opportunity to do a materclass with an Italian bassoon player named Alberto Belli. He was playing with Püchner bassoon and Püchner bocal. Even though I played with Heckel bassoon and Heckel bocal, my high sounds were much more closed. I tried his bocal and literally breathed with my instrument. Of course, this was only valid for the bocal I tried. Even though I offered to pay a high amount, I could not buy his bocal. But this was a turning point for me.
This experience pushed me to start bocal production. Over many years, I carried out scientific studies with my father, Valetyn Trofimov, using modern technologies such as CNC. We have produced bocal from metals such as brass, copper, German silver, as well as steel, titanium and 925 carat silver. This production was carried out with different experimental thicknesses and technologies. The tuneable bocal, which gets longer and shorter, is one of these works. I have eleven patented inventions that improved Bocali as a result of many scientific studies.
After long and hard work, we managed to produce very high quality, all sound registers open and comfortable bocals consisting of models and alloys with different sound features. TS&G Model (brass alloy model with little silver in it). TS&C Model (copper alloy model). TS&G&C Model (half brass and half copper model). These models are available in classic and English (straight) bends. We even developed models with microphone inputs.
I help the performer make the right choice by recommending the model and length according to the bassoon brand and needs. As a family of Custom Trofimov bassoon bocals manufacturers, we produce high-quality bocals that are easily accessible to you, our valued bassoon artists.
